當(dāng)?shù)貢r(shí)間12月5日，美國(guó)《時(shí)代周刊》在官方推特上公布了最新一期雜志封面。

封面上，白底黑字的2020被畫上了一個(gè)紅叉，并附言“這是最糟糕的一年”（THE WORST YEAR EVER）。

《時(shí)代周刊》雜志將2020年定義為“最糟糕的一年”，一方面指的是新冠肺炎疫情蔓延，另一方面也針對(duì)美國(guó)大選。

在這期雜志中，入圍2015年普利策影評(píng)獎(jiǎng)的Stephanie Zacharek寫道：

你永遠(yuǎn)不想重溫這一年所發(fā)生的故事。

This is the story of a year you'll never want to revisit.

她認(rèn)為縱然在美國(guó)歷史上、世界歷史上都有過更糟糕的年份，但大多數(shù)活在今天的我們都沒有經(jīng)歷過那樣的歲月。

只有活到100歲以上的人才會(huì)記得第一次世界大戰(zhàn)和1918年大流感所造成的破壞；90歲左右的人才會(huì)切身感受過大蕭條造成的經(jīng)濟(jì)匱乏，80多歲的人才會(huì)對(duì)二戰(zhàn)以及那段恐怖的過往存有記憶。

You would need to be over 100 to remember the devastation of World War I and the 1918 flu pandemic; roughly 90 to have a sense of the economic deprivation wrought by the Great Depression; and in your 80s to retain any memory of World War II and its horrors. 

作者認(rèn)為，其余的我們面對(duì)2020年經(jīng)歷的一切都有些手足無(wú)措——一再發(fā)生的自然災(zāi)害，在幻想的基礎(chǔ)上進(jìn)行的選舉（for an election contested on the basis of fantasy），還有導(dǎo)致全球超過150萬(wàn)人失去生命的新冠肺炎（end the lives of roughly 1.5 million people around the world）。

文章中寫道：“今年并不像虛構(gòu)的世界末日那樣令人毛骨悚然。生活除了痛苦不堪外，還單調(diào)得令人發(fā)狂，每天的日常都在與我們作對(duì)。”

This year wasn't doomily thrilling, like a fictional apocalypse. It was, in addition to being wrought with pain, maddeningly mundane, the routine of the everyday turned against us.

“今年，我們被一種最擊垮人心的無(wú)助感所威脅著，這種感覺不受控制地蔓延。”

Our most debilitating threat this year was a sense of helplessness, and it ran unchecked.

外媒ABC7新聞報(bào)道稱，這個(gè)紅叉標(biāo)記在該雜志封面上只出現(xiàn)過四次。

The red "X" is symbolic because Time has used it on just four other occasions.

第一次使用是阿道夫·希特勒死亡；

Adolph Hitler's death was the first.

第二次是2003年伊拉克戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)爆發(fā)；

The second was for Saddam Hussein in 2003 at the start of the Iraq war.

第三次是2006年美軍擊斃伊拉克基地組織首領(lǐng)阿布·穆薩布·扎卡維；

The third in 2006 when the US killed the leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Mousab al-Zarqawi.

第四次則是2011年美軍擊斃基地組織頭目本·拉登。

The killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011 was the last time the red "X" was used.

對(duì)于《時(shí)代周刊》評(píng)出的“最糟糕的一年”，很多網(wǎng)友并不買賬。部分網(wǎng)友認(rèn)為，美國(guó)在全球發(fā)動(dòng)戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)，多年來(lái)對(duì)當(dāng)?shù)乩习傩諑?lái)的災(zāi)難和絕望不亞于美國(guó)的今天。

網(wǎng)友GabySPontes寫道，非洲很多地方生活在流行病之下，科索沃戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)讓20萬(wàn)黎民百姓受苦受難......但對(duì)我們所有人（美國(guó)人）來(lái)說(shuō)，2020年卻是最糟糕的一年，原因是美國(guó)女性不能出去散步……
